I can honestly say that winter break this year was a much needed break! The last couple of weeks before break were BRUTAL between working on my masters and everything else going on in life. Luckily, my in-laws take us on a wonderful vacation every year during winter break. This year we left on the 26th and headed to Arrruba! Not Aruba, but Arrruba! I looove how the locals roll their r's. It was wonderfully hot and beautiful.
I'm all ready to go back to reality…I think!
Monday will hopefully(we have major snow in the forecast!)
be my first day back to school. As I'm preparing to head back to school I'm reflecting on the past semester and what my kiddos really need to work on moving forward. I am going to keep pushing them with their sight word identification.
I will give each one of
my kiddos has a list, most of my kids start with list 1, but it depends on
their current level. They have the opportunity to practice their list during
word work and it is also a homework requirement. I orally quiz each
student on one page of his or her list two or three times a
week. I do not quiz EVERY student each
day. I ask the students if they feel
ready to be quizzed. If they do, then I
quiz them. Each student is quizzed at
least twice a week, some kids may NEVER feel ready. :0)
Once they have mastered a page of five words, I whole punch next to the
words. When they have mastered the entire list, I make a big deal of it! The
whole class sings a superhero tune and they become “Captain Word Whiz” for the
day! I picked up a cape that they can wear, give them a certificate and they
get their new list. They have the chance to design their own superhero on their
certificate! I
post their word whiz pictures on our classroom Instagram and website, the
parents go bananas over it!
Look at that handsome dog, he makes me happy to be home from paradise!
Have a great week!
